Stretching Classes in South Austin
Most people who feel tight have more range than they can use. The hip bends further when somebody else moves it than it does when you move it yourself, and that difference is the thing that makes a body feel stuck.
These classes train that difference directly. They are stretching classes in the sense most people mean when they search for one, with you doing the moving: nobody pushes you into a position, and a range only counts once you can reach it under your own strength. A coach is in the room watching to make sure the range you gain is range you can produce again tomorrow.

Live in South Austin
Our stretching classes are KINSTRETCH, taught live
Our stretching classes are KINSTRETCH taught live, at Motive Training in the St. Elmo neighborhood of South Austin. Small classes, a coach actually watching what your hip or your shoulder is doing that day, and the same joint-by-joint system that underlies everything else here, from personal training to the assessment most clients start with.
The reasoning behind the method itself lives on the KINSTRETCH page: why active range matters more than passive range, and why most training never builds it. This page is about what the class actually looks like week to week, run by coaches who also program one-on-one training and the assessment protocol the whole system is built on. If you're deciding if the drive is worth it, this is what you'd actually be walking into.

Week to week
What happens in a session
Every class opens with the joints, taken through their full range one at a time, so the coach can see what's actually going on before anything gets built on top of it. What the coach sees there decides what the rest of the hour looks like, depending on who's in the room that day.
From there it moves into strength work at the end of that range, the part most training skips completely because nothing ever demands it. Some classes spend the whole hour on one joint: a hip, a shoulder, a spine. That's deliberate; it's how much most joints actually need once someone starts looking closely at what they can and can't control.
Why South Austin
Why it's run this way in South Austin
South Austin sits at an intersection that makes this kind of class useful in a fairly specific way. A lot of the people walking through the door spend eight or nine hours a day at a desk, then try to squeeze training around that, and the joints that pay for it are predictable: hips that never extend, a thoracic spine that's forgotten how to rotate, shoulders that catch the second they go overhead. Others are already training hard somewhere else, lifting or running or playing in one of the rec leagues that have exploded around here, and they hit a ceiling that isn't strength. It's a joint that won't cooperate, and no amount of added weight fixes a range problem.
CrossFit Jääkarhu is close enough to Motive that we see a steady trickle of their members, usually after a shoulder or hip got loaded in a range it hadn't earned yet. High-output training tends to outrun the mobility work underneath it in any gym, and that gap is a big part of why this class exists five minutes from a box that trains hard every day.
Who this is for
Built for wherever you're stiff
The class meets people where they actually are. Most show up stiff in one or two specific joints, not stiff everywhere, and that's exactly what this is built to find and work on rather than run everyone through the same generic flow.
If pain is the main issue, or one joint keeps flaring no matter what you do, start with a Motive Movement & Mobility Assessment first. That gives you an actual read on what's going on before you spend months in a class guessing at it. If nothing specific hurts and you just want to move better and stay ahead of the joints that will eventually become a problem, the class itself is the starting point. No baseline required, no appointment to wait on first.

FAQ
Common Questions
- What should I expect walking in for the first time?
-
Nobody's thrown into anything advanced. The coach watches how you move and builds the class around what's actually there that day, not a fixed curriculum everyone follows regardless of what their joints need. Most people leave surprised by what they didn't know they couldn't do, and a little sore in a place they weren't expecting.
- Do I need to already be training somewhere else?
-
No. Plenty of people come in with zero training background. Plenty more come in already lifting or running and use this to fix what's been quietly limiting them everywhere else they train.
- Is this the same as KINSTRETCH Online?
-
Same system, same CARs and PAILs/RAILs foundation. This version has a coach in the room adjusting you in real time, which matters most in the beginning, before you can reliably feel the difference between controlling a range and just passing through it.
- How often should I come?
-
As often as you can. There's no cap standing between you and another class, and no membership tier gating how much you train.
- Do I need to be flexible to start?
-
No. A more restricted joint usually has more room to gain from this than one that's already working fine.
- Where is it, and how do I get there?
-
714 Shelby Ln, Suite E, in St. Elmo, just off South Congress. Inside fifteen minutes of 78704, 78745, and 78748, about twenty minutes from downtown outside rush hour. Parking is on site.
